A touch over 75 days until I finish the Zion 100, my first true ultramarathon! #feels #frightenedfeels
Fitness is improving. Morale is ever increasing. Body fat percentage is staying exactly the same ($#*^!) Mileage is…good on the weekends?
Although I got up to long’ish runs of 20+15 miles last weekend with decent climbing (~125+’/mile = 4500+ feet vert. total), my midweek running has been straight strugglebus status. I can’t find the energy to get other stuff done; thus no time to get the running thing done.
I’m in a mental rut. Possibly. Yes, some kind of rut. But one can only stretch out excuses so far before s/he just starts to look like the people they can’t stand on social media. #complainer #millennial #emo
If you are having a hard time doing a thing, the only way out is through. Pretty sure either Churchill or Dr. Seuss deserves quote recognition here.
It’s jog blogging streak time, people.
Current thought process is – if starting a running streak helped me to get the ball rolling again last fall, starting a blogging streak ABOUT a midweek running streak will definitely provide the necessary fear of public embarrassment to initiate a change in Tuesday->Thursday running and time use behaviors.
As habit changing specialists like to say:
Cue -> Behavior -> Reward
In my case this equals:
Daily Countdown to Zion100 Blog on my To Do list every morning -> Daily, fear mediated blog posting by 12:00 midnight Mountain Time -> Runesiology Blog Readership grows in size, I embarrass myself publicly for other reasons than not running, but I don’t die during the Ultra. Which my 3 months pregnant wife will appreciate. The not dying part, at least.
Follow me on Strava. If I don’t run at least 5 miles on any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between now and April 20th, taunt me with irrational comment section hate. The kind of unforgivable stuff that was in 2016 election cycle ads! I’m not asking much, guys.
There it is. Zion Blog Post #1. They’ll get better. Because they’ll have to.
There’s 74 more days of this nonsense coming your way.
